Greta’s a busy girl…

by sarah

Greta loves to slide! She prefers to walk up the slide, sit on the ‘bridge’ and slide back down. It has taken several weeks to understand how a slide works!

Peek-a-boo

Raccoons turnGreta really wanted to try a lemon… Begged and begged.. so I gave her one.

She loved it!

Ate it up… Will have to hide the lemons from now on..

We tried pigtails!

She seemed to like them

Time for a little piano

She’s so silly. We were in the garage doing laundry and she saw her swing. She really wanted it! So I put her in while getting laundry…she didn’t want out! We brought it inside and she stayed in it the for hours. I couldn’t believe it. She hated it as a baby.

Baby wants a turn

Needs a snack

More toys

Maybe my halloween costume too…

or a good book

too tired

If we had let her I think she would have spent all day in her swing. She demands the awful music be turned on too! She loves it.

Texas Wildflower

by sarah

We decided to get in on the wildflower picture action with our cute kid too! We found an abandoned office building with some pretty wildflowers close to our house. Amazingly Greta was in a pretty good mood even though she skipped a nap…

Except for this:

Thats right, Greta walked to the corner of the nursery at church, laid down and passed out! Poor girl must have been pretty tired!

She was pretty excited when we got out of the car and she saw all the flowers.

She really liked smelling the flowers and would always say “stinky flowers.”

So many flowers did make her sneeze a little:

And I guess she may have gotten a little too close to a few of the flowers. Can you see her yellow nose?

Time for a quick costume change.

And I’m proud that my girl likes to pretend to be the drum major! Thats what she is doing here. (Of course, not as proud to say I did not teach her this but an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba did!)

With Mommy

With Daddy:

We had fun!

Easter

by sarah

We took Greta to an egg hunt at our church Easter weekend. I wanted her to have a little understanding of what was going on, so I practiced hiding and finding eggs with her at home the week before. I hid five of her plastic eggs in the back yard and took her outside. We told her to go find an egg and put it in your basket. This is what she came back with:

Seriously! She came back with a real bird egg! I couldn’t believe it. Greta is an over achiever. I am going to be optimistic and think that this little birdie is ok!

You can see that our yard was a little jungle like at the time.

We got to the egg hunt early, so Greta really had fun finding her eggs! She was even more excited when she discovered they had candy or money inside them later. As you can see it didn’t require too much skill to find the eggs.. haha.

Greta also enjoyed some goodies from Grandma. She especially loved these two soft bunnies. She wouldn’t put them down and even had to take one to church. She told several people she had the easter bunny.

As Greta’s World Turns…

by sarah

I made this post several weeks ago and didn’t post it right away so I ended up forgetting about it. I think I was waiting to add pictures. Anyway, I will go ahead and post it like it is.

Greta is a talker. I love how expressive she is and how often she can tell me what she wants. She is also really starting to use her imagination. We have to rescue her stuffed animals at least once a day. It usually starts with Greta saying “oh no, teddy bear far away.” Then, “teddy bear’s in trouble, help teddy bear.” Then after we save teddy bear she says “we did it, we help teddy bear.” Usually the next day its doggy or some other poor animal who has gotten into trouble. I think that’s a pretty good imagination for almost 19 months old. When she’s done something good she will say “awesome”. Its funny to hear in her baby voice.

She also loves to go looking for mommy and daddy around the house. I hear “oh no daddy’s missing” a lot. Then she is very excited to go and find daddy. She was saying this at midnight last night. Very loudly and pretty upset. It took a minute to decide if she was awake or talking in her sleep. “Oh no, Daddy missing. Oh no, Momma missing.” Leo had to go help her back to sleep. When he did she told him in a pitiful voice “I’m sleepy”. Awwww how sweet.

Yesterday, Greta pulled kitty up by her tail. Actually lifted her off the ground by her tail! Poor kitty! So of course kitty ran away pretty quickly. Greta became so upset. She was crying actual tears and saying “oh no, I hurt kitty” over and over. It was kinda pitiful and took a while to calm Greta down. I felt bad for Greta and kitty. We are hopeful that Greta will remember this and start being nicer to kitty.

Greta is counting everything now. It’s sweet to hear. She can count to 14! Pretty good for almost 19 months I think. She has a great memory and is starting to tell us what her books say. I guess we have read them a lot. It is neat to see how much she is learning and remembering. Now that her carseat is facing forward she likes to point out red and green lights and diamond and rectangle shaped signs. She isn’t always right, of course but she’s trying!

Greta demands to go outside everyday! She loves to be in the backyard, and since we don’t know how much longer the weather will be nice we are outside a lot. Greta believes it is her full time job to move the dirt from one flower pot to another. Every time we go outside the one thing I know is Greta will have dirt from head to toe and need a bath afterwards. She has a great time playing in the yard.

She plays by herself really well. Which is usually really nice. She ran off one day this week and I didn’t hear her for a while so I was looking around and looking and looking for her. I was starting to panic. Our house is small so it only takes a minute to look in all the rooms. So then I started checking all the outside doors. That’s when I found her standing so still behind the curtains in our room just looking out at the backyard. I guess she didn’t feel there was enough panic in my voice to respond to me calling for her!

Greta has also given us a taste of the terrible twos! We have had a few screaming fits where Greta is uncontrollably screaming and rolling around on the floor. We have no idea what to do when these happen. I am dreading the day this happens at the grocery store or when we are out somewhere!

Thats a little of what Greta is doing now. I am really enjoying this stage in her life. She is a lot of fun right now.
She is a smart, very talkative and generally happy girl!

Swimming in the Rain

by sarah

Greta went out on the porch to play in the rain and had a great time. You can guess why we had to come in if you watch the video! She slid all over the porch until she finally took a good fall. I think it just scared her but it was time to come inside for a bath after getting some dirt to play with anyway.
She had fun singing and talking while splashing in the puddles. I tried to get it recorded. She was telling me the ‘birds are cold’ and other cute things.
Here is Greta ‘swimming’ on the back porch.

Nice & Easy

by sarah

Another short Greta video! I’ll explain some of what she is doing in the video.
She loves to ‘play’ cello. She had been playing and singing a song about her friends on “Yo Gabba Gabba.” I got a little of it. I also tell her when she plays cello she needs to ‘play nice and be easy’, so she was repeating that. She is really trying to sing now. She will sing parts of “Twinkle, Twinkle” and parts of other songs, but I haven’t gotten it on camera yet.
One of Greta’s favorite games is walking around the house with her blanket over her head. Yes, she does get hurt a lot but we can’t seem to convince her to stop. When she doesn’t have her ‘manket’ she just walks around with her eyes closed.
Here is Greta as she spends most of her days talking, playing and being silly.

Happy Day from Greta

by sarah

I said “Happy Valentine’s Day” to Greta and she said it back to me very clearly. Of course when I try to record anything it always changes. She got very confused about happy Valentine’s day and happy birthday cake. Also confusing ‘love you’ and ‘bless you’. Greta is very big on saying bless you after every sneeze real or fake.

And a little of Greta painting her first masterpiece. Any time I ask her the color of anything she responds with ‘brown’. We are still working on that.

Also, Greta was cleaning out the recycling bin so that is why she is carrying around coke cans. Don’t worry, we haven’t put soda in her sippy cup yet.

Happy Valentines Day!

by sarah

We’ve already done all of our celebrating for this day of love. This past Friday we dropped Greta off at church for Parent’s Night Out and went to a lovely dinner where we only had to feed ourselves and did not worry we would have to leave because someone was having a meltdown. It was really nice. The good news is Greta really seems to enjoy going to the nursery at church now. She has gotten over some of her separation anxiety and is usually happy when I leave her and pick her up now.

Greta and I had some fun painting yesterday. I know.. I prefer to think it was just adventurous to paint with a 17 month old not just crazy. Greta loved it, and the mess was very minimal too! We will paint again soon. When we looking through the pictures I took yesterday she was getting so excited saying “more paint, pease!”

Greta also made Daddy a picture for Valentines. Greta supplied the hand prints and also painted the heart! It was a lot of work to get two hand prints and paint in one specific spot!

I have seen many blogs and Pinterest pins about these m & m, pretzel, hug dessert treats. I read how easy they are to make and how delicious they are. So I got a bag of raspberry kisses and gave it a try. I made a huge mess and my treats look nothing like the pictures I saw online! Oh well.. I made the raspberry/chocolate kind because that combination will always make me think of our wedding.

Not pretty to look at, but pretty tasty!

Greta got a Valentine in the mail from  Grandma yesterday and was so excited. If we had any idea she would have reacted like she did we would have recorded it! She was “reading” the card and telling us about it and really loved opening (destroying) the envelope.

She also had fun with her Valentine from her Daddy. It came with Dora the Explore stickers. Here she is putting them all over herself.

Yes, thats a sticker on her nose.

And the most awesome Valentine of all: A working, non-leaking, pretty kitchen faucet! Yay. Leo stayed up getting our disposal fixed (it had been installed very poorly and never worked) and putting in the new faucet. I think it looks great. You can see it isn’t completely finished yet (there is still a hole where the old sprayer was). What a nice Valentine :)

I also received everything you need to make your own cheese (yes, a very unusual Valentine). But I will save that disaster for another post. We apparently have a lot to learn about cheese making!

Happy Valentine’s Day, family!!

Hello

by sarah

Another Greta movie! She was playing and having a good time last night so we took some video of her. She is definitely a talker and I love hearing her baby voice. Here Greta seems upset a Elmo for some reason and then makes a few phone calls. You may notice she is in that same Kai-lan shirt again. She loves it! Most days she asked me “Kai-lan shirt, Kai-lan shirt, pease peeease!” So she usually wears it if it is clean.
